GARNETT WON THIS STAMFORD PUBLIC ART COMMISSION IN 2011.

Garnett's mural concept was selected by the town of Stamford for the Bedford Street Garage Building in the spring of 2011. Of 22 applications Garnett won the competition and was awarded the mural.
The mural background was to be painted or printed vinyl. The tightrope walker was to be a 25 foot aluminum cutout. The aluminum figure was intended to be a hand-painted female figure. The tightrope wire was intended to be real wire affixed to the ends of the building, the balancing pole was real 40-50 foot pole. The artist envisioned a kinetic experience, the art moving with the wind.
On June 7, 2011, The Stamford Downtown Services mural selection committee visited the artist's studio and awarded the public art project to Sandy Garnett. It was explained in this meeting that the SDSSD could only pay $50,000 as they were trying to get a 'two-for-one' deal by commissioning the runner-up to do a second mural in Stamford with the 'balance' of the allotted budget.
Unfortunately, the SDSSD cut the budget for this winning public art proposal and the project went into limbo as Garnett was concerned about covering the costs of such a large project.
