Garnett was interested in evolving his Figure series.  In the Nude series the artist focused on one figure against the bank of his studio factory windows, juxtaposing figuration against the geometric grid.  Seeking more complex compositions, he increased the number of figures in the composition and brought the grid of a classic Twister board into play.  The Twister board was unique in the artist's catalogue as Garnett rarely brings iconographical elements into his paintings that often date stamp a piece of art.  But the Twister offers a primary palette, a flair of nostalgic Americana, the timelessness of game playing and movement in space, and a strong juxtaposition against the organic limbs and reposes of his models, lit by a vertical grid of factory windows once again.

Photography has been brought into the most recent Twister works as backgrouds, and the figures are now being sculpted in relief form before they are painted.  The frames are custom made, routed and painted to mirror the Twister board.  The spacing of the Twister circles on the frames dictate the scale of each new Twister work.  Garnett has made this series as complex as possible in an effort to achieve something new and play with the eye.  The juxtaposition of materials and styles creates an other worldly vibration from these new Twister reliefs.  He is working on several large pieces currently and may be showing them in Miami this winter.
